HostGator.com offers good hosting and it is cheap. My sister uses them.
I remember answering your question some time back. Was this live person an employee of JH or a friend who has hosted with them?

That is one of the forum/messageboard where you can’t find much reviews about hosting etc. And even in there, you can find so many for JH. If you make it a point to avoid the "top 10 web hosts" sites, you’ll probably do better. Only people who see those lists fall for JH etc.
Try searching for "hostname + terrible/scam/pathetic" etc on google and for some hosts you’ll find way too many negative reviews. For some you’ll just find a few. Definitely avoid the way too many negative ones (relative to positive ones).

Beware of hosts like justhost.com. Many hosts that offer unlimited space and bandwidth, etc, do not really mean that.
I’ve heard of people with relatively small sites being cut off as soon as they start to get more views, after paying for the next two years in advance..
I’d recommend picking a host that tells you exactly how much bandwidth, etc, you are going to get.
However, if you’re planning on hosting a small site, justhost would be fine.
