What is a legitimate, inexpensive web hosting provider?

I need a new web host but I’m really getting lost in them. For example, are FatCow or iPage legitimate, or scams? What are hosting providers that you use, and definitely know to work? I don’t want to get scammed, so any advise, tips, or things to look out for would be grand to know.

I need a website for my art portfolio, so it would have a lot of images and perhaps a shopping cart, eventually.

Thank you.

I know what you mean! You have to be careful.

I use a company called Pro Choice Hosting. They are good, been with them for a couple months and never had a problem.

Also they have a feature where you can add a shopping cart aswell. The link you need is

    http://prochoicehosting.com

You should try Fatcow. They are cheap and offers great service with web hosting on fast servers. Their features are easy to use even for a novice. When you host your website on any website hosting server, the knowledge on how to manage a hosting server is very handy. http://www.webhostingbreak.com/fat-cow/

There are a lot of web hosting sites that are a pain to work with. However, you will find that the site below shows you the BBB rating so that you don’t get cheated out of your money.

I advise you to choose well your web host provider. There are actually a lot of companies offering hosting solutions, but only few are actually doing what they are advertising. "any advise, tips, or things to look out for would be grand to know."
What to look out for? Disk space, bandwidth, uptime, customer support, email accounts, programming languages, database support, other technical issues. And, of course, you have to consider how long the company’s been in business and how reputable they are. If you’re not comfortable configuring things manually, go with a web host that also does domain registration.

"are FatCow or iPage legitimate, or scams?"
FatCow and iPage are legitimate, but as far as services go, there are better companies.

You should check out http://buywebspacetoday.com/ — you can learn the basics of web hosting and see a list of established web hosts that offer affordable hosting plans. Btw, the recommended hosts all bundle Fantastico for free, which would be of great help to you when you set up your art portfolio and shopping cart. This tool allows you to easily install photo galleries, shopping cart systems, content management systems, etc. in a few clicks.

Both of those are legitimate hosts, plus iPage has anytime money back guarantee and a US based phone support.

They also have 50% sale right now, one year of hosting for $42.00 (also includes a domain name).

They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They’re also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998.

They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop) or you could install Wordpress (they include easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.

They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like Wordpress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

You can find a comparison between iPage and Fatcow at http://www.top3hosts.com
